Schaltbau announces DNV approval for maritime applications
Company’s Eddicy C320 contactor series granted DNVGL-CG-0339 certification for reliability and safety in demanding maritime environments
Schaltbau, a global industry leader specializing in direct current (DC) technology, today announced that its Eddicy C320 contactor series has received approval from DNV, a globally recognized authority in risk management and quality assurance. With this approval, C320 contactors are now certified for use in a wide range of maritime applications, including commercial shipping, offshore platforms, and other marine vessels.
"The C320 contactor series has undergone comprehensive testing and evaluation to meet the stringent requirements set forth by DNV. This certification affirms that Schaltbau’s Eddicy contactors meet the rigorous standards required for maritime applications, ensuring superior performance and reliability. We are proud to contribute to the safety and efficiency of maritime operations worldwide," says Kees Fielstra, Director E-Mobility at Schaltbau.

The certified C320 contactor series consists of compact but high-powered devices. With a rated short-circuit making capacity of up to 3,000 amps, the contactors are suitable for applications with high inrush currents. They can permanently conduct up to 1,000 amps due to high contact forces with measurably less heating in the main contact system. In the event of a short circuit, as much as 4,500 amps may flow for 100 milliseconds without the contacts welding. This means that the contactor retains its full function to disconnect large powers when required, regardless of the direction of the current – made possible by an efficient ceramic arc chamber with generously dimensioned air gaps.
In addition to the C320 contactors, C360 contactor series is also DNV certified. The C360 contactor is a compact single-pole AC and bidirectional DC contactor with a making capacity of up to 2,500 amps that can conduct continuously up to 500 amps.
